Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta


The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta was founded in 1988 in response to the lack of furniture for families moving out of homeless shelters. Today, the Furniture Bank provides essential household furnishings to individuals and families moving out of homelessness, battling HIV/AIDS, and fleeing domestic violence.

The following is a list of ways you can be involved with the Furniture Bank:
  • Serve with your community group.
  • Volunteer individually in one of their ongoing opportunities.
  • Donate some of their most-needed items.
  • Register to receive occasional updates on last-minute or one-time service opportunities or donation needs.

Individual Volunteer Opportunities
If you are interested in serving with the Furniture Bank, here are general volunteer options:
  • Warehouse Clean-Up -help maintain the order and cleanliness of the warehouse by sorting and moving furniture. Weekend and Weekday opportunities available.
  • Client Assistant - aid clients with picking out furniture and loading it onto their vehicles during the weekend or weekday service opportunities.
  • Donation Truck - assist the donation crew with navigating to donors homes and removing furniture donations. Weekday opportunity.
  • Administrative Assistance - help greet clients and donors, enter data, correspond with clients or donors, and answer phones Monday through Thursday in the mornings

Donations
If you are interested in donating some of the Furniture Bank's most-needed items, please consider dropping off the following or taking them with you as you go to serve. Currently, they need:
  • Mattresses and box springs, especially twin-sized
  • Dressers
  • Kitchen Kits of a box containing enough kitchen items for a family of four, six, or eight
  • Bed and comforter sets including sheets, pillow cases, and comforter of any size, new or used

They accept donations from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at
538 Permalume Place
Atlanta, Georgia 30318.
If you call ahead and let them know what you are bringing, they will have your receipt ready when you arrive.
